• So Textual is a book club and slow reading community for literary creatives who seek smart, discerning content about literature and the arts. We disregard the trendy in order to pay reverence to the classics, the canonical, the overlooked, and new works that endure over time and touch lives as resources for creative practice, reflective selfhood, and personal style. By way of interviews and conversations, as well as community notes and curations, we cultivate our own taste to bring to our coterie the books we know are excellent.

Our subscribing Members receive access to our Homework Club and Book Club, as well as our bi-weekly subscription Newsletter highlighting the best of chic literary culture, past and present. Our monthly Book Selections are ones you might not have heard of but should definitely know. And our site is updated weekly with writing for you to spend time with.

We’re a digital platform with an analog mindset: we don’t recommend books beyond your capacity to actually read them. After all, So Textual is for those who like to think about the books they read - for a life well-lived.

    Come read with us.

  • So Textual was founded in 2020 by Jennie Edgar, an artist, writer, creative director, and book curator.

A graduate of Harvard, Jennie studied philosophy and literature and considered books as sites of anthropological inquiry. Merging her interests in design, fashion, art, rituals of meaning-making, creative practice, and literature, she created So Textual to be a sophisticated community platform whereby readers consider the cultural influences that have formed their identities, tastes, and creativity. Now, Jennie reads and writes for So Textual, as well as hosts and moderates virtual and analog events in New York and Los Angeles for the coterie.

Jennie’s keen eye for visual harmony and deep knowledge of contemporary publishing and vintage, rare books makes her a talented book curator for brands and spaces. She divides her time between New York City and the Hudson Valley.
